Default goes to 1000rpm in diagnositc mode

on my 85 when i jumper the pins to make the connection to tunerpro, it also sets the rpm to 1000.

this opens up the IAC, which means i cannot get a decent count on it when im trying to dial in my minimum idle. IOW, the minute i connect to the ecu, it increases the rpm to 1000, the IAC was at 145 and i was confused and then realised the car was idling at 1000.

does anybody with an 85 have a method where you can grab a reading from your IAC without having the car up in 1000rpm mode?

I can see the IAC position climb to 145 to achieve 1000rpm as soon as i plug in the jumper but i cannot see where it starts at.

50-70 counts at 1,000 rpm should put you in the ballpark and give you a controllable range between approx. 500 and 1500 rpm.

For reference, my min air setting is about 650-700 rpm (at zero counts). 700 rpm target idle speed. If I target 1,000 rpm, the IAC settles around 30 counts. A 2.000 rpm target will hit 160 counts, which is the max value in my current tune.

My controllable range is roughly 650 -> 2000 rpm between zero and 160 counts (warm coolant).

With 145 counts at 1,000 rpm target, you are somewhat starved for air.

could I put the car into diagnostic mode which takes be idol to 1000, and get out of the car and adjust the throttlebody plates with the screw so that the IAC counts adjust to about 70?
