The guts of a Corsa muffler
Alright, in the search for possibly making the system into a 3" system since the jerkwads won't make one..... I have dissected a muffler to check it out.
Taking a plasma cutter and cutting it open
Cut open. You can clearly see the outboard tip has no direct flow for it to function. There looks to be a glasspack or similar system for the "flowing" pipe. It seems to me to be more of a noise cancellation system.
This is where the outboard tip gets it's small amount of airflow from. There is a small gap of maybe 1/4 inch at most for air to come through and go to the other tip. Not large enough in my opinion. But it still does get airflow. I wound up cutting the section out to gain airflow for the outboard tip.
Backside of the muffler. This is a small diamter tube that is present coming into the muffler from the straight piece.
More to come later
Thanks to Tom Wong for the work.

It is unrestricted. It just has some slots cut in it.
The outboard tip is functional. You hold you hand over the straight pipe and seal it off, air flow comes out of the dummy tip.
By punching out the outboard tip, the sound went just a little bit deeper. I was not able to verify any resonance as this muffler was tweeked from a roll over accident and wouldn't bolt up in the stock location.
More to come.

they appeared to be damaged... so why not!
The idea behind the outer tip isn't so much to be a passage, as a pressure release.
The system does do sound cancellation. The pulse comes in, enters the chamber, bounces back, killing the next incoming pulse.
When you floor it, the air moves too fast to enter that chamber.

At least it settles the dummy tip argument once and for all. The majority of the exhaust obviously still comes out of the main tip and there isn't anything that "opens up" at wide open throttle or any of the other silly theories.

Size is probably just to retain a stock look.
As far as a 3" system, I discussed this with them about year ago and the suggestion was to use the Viper system
