Default A/C doesn't work. What are the chances...

What are the chances it's a bad relay?

'94 LT1, manual A/C, 53K miles on the car. Checked the fuse and compressor plug-in, no luck. Compressor doesn't seem to come on, nor does the secondary cooling fan.

Gonna replace that relay tomorrow. Any other advice? I'm an A/C dufus

BTW, heater does work and blower blows on all speeds.

Most A/C shops have a free diagnosis test. I would say to call them in the morn' to find out if they do. It si very possible it is a relay. But it could be a chafed wire. fusable link, ect. I'm not 100% on all the stuff the newer vettes have. So i'm not sure what is in the electrical circuit.

Have you had the freon checked, if its low the compressor will not engage.

Low freon or fuse.

Or bad switches...that's what I suspect in my '94 doing the same thing but has freon and good fuse. Where is the relay...I should check that out too.

Does the light on the head unit blink, if so the computer has shut off the A/c. I just had my freon refilled and the computer cleared. Works fine now.

Default A/C Relay

I have the same problem, but can't find where the relay is located?
'90 L98, Auto. Does anyone know where the relay is physically located?

It's mounted on the inside of the right front fender. Third one toward the engine in my 94 LT1 6-speed w/manual A/C. It's different on others.

Default A/C Relay

It's not in the R fender on a 90. Does anyone know where this thing is on a 90?

Did you replace the relay? Did it fix the problem? Where did you find the
relay on yours?

Manual AC doesn't have those diagnostics. [wasn't thinking... 94 does have ODB II, which I'm not totally familiar with - my mistake so a scanner probably will see any low level code]

Did you have the freon level check yet? If the freon is low it is not going to allow the compressor to engage. The head pressure won't be there as one of the variables that sets the secondary fan to on, however you can let it heat up to 232F and it should kick on.

Once the ECM gets a low charge indication (usually .8 volt or less from the pressure switch), a/c operation is shut down and a trouble code is set. It won't ground the compressor relay until the code is cleared, so you need to disconnect the battery or remove power from the ECM. Once you've done that, and if there is enough charge in it, the compressor should kick back on until the code resets. Easier to trobleshoot with a scanner, particularly if it doesn't have auto a/c, though I think you can still display the low charge code through the speedo. If it is low on gas, you will need to clear the code and jumper the low pressure switch harness to get it recharged.
