Default What wires do I have to jump to make a manual fan switch?

Yeah, my temps got to 239 today in traffic after a long highway cruise. Thats because the fan now like to come on a 240. I'm getting a little worried. I noticed that the fan temp is controlled by the ecm/memcal, eprom programming or whatever that is. OK, so now what terminals (a, b, c, d, e, f) of the relay do I have to short to get my main fan(s) on whenever I'd like?? Where are both of these relay located?

Buy a chip from Ed Write, it'll turn on the fans at a lower temp. Ive had mine for years and love it

I wrote a tech tip that touches on this for a 1990. Not positive if 89's relays are the same as 90's but you can check the part number listed in my tech tip and see. If so then just follow the instructions.

I cannot think right now. Too much is going on today. Can someone get me an illustration to make sure for certain I don't mess this up?? When I'm on a break, I'll get my roll of speaker wire out and start splicing. Thanks!

I have one of these jumpers in my 94. I have a shop manual here. Give me some time and I will let you know.

Ok, providing that 89's wire colors and relay is same as 90, all you have to do is ground a wire then run it to a switch then run wire from other side of switch and tap into this small blue wire with white stripe that goes to terminal F at relay on left for one fan. See where my red ground wire from my switch is spliced into that wire with the pink splice connector? Thats how you do it.

Now do the same thing on relay at right but small wire is green with black stripe that goes to terminal F

Now flip your switch with ignition key in ON position which completes the ground and fans will run.

These are the two wires that ECM grounds to activate both fans.

Make sure your 89 is the same as my 90 before doing it because I'm not sure if it is.

Remember the relays pictured for mine are GM's new replacements. The original part # is 14103304. The new replacement # as pictured is 14089936 and is the same relay.

On my '88 the main fan relay is locatd under the brake MC on the rear of the inner wheel well. Here you simply need to ground the Grn/Wht wire at the relay, with the key On to bring the main fan on.

I too used those neat clip on splice connecors from Radio Shack.

On my '94 the green wire on the left relay (closest to front of car) for left fan....blue wire on the right relay (closest to cabin) for passenger fan are the ones grounded out. The fans were hard grounded "ON" when I got the car. I spliced in a switch...ugly but effective.

I wired up my cooling fan's like described on 88Z01's page. Only cost me about $20, and both fans come on at 195º off at 175º, works for me!

This is great info! I've been trying to figure out how to do this on my '96 for a while now. Everyone keeps telling me I need a fan switch like the one that Hypertech sells.
