Default ASM runners & ported plenum on stock base - worth the effort?

I'd like to open up the breathing on the intake a little on my '85 L98, but I'm not ready to start tearing into it deep enough to pull the intake off right now - the car is running well and I have several other projects that don't run at all!...

Anyway - I was thinking about K&N, remove screens, stock TB, no airfoil, ported plenum, and ASM runners - but all on the stock base. I know that the full realization of intake mods would not be complete without the base as well, but would the runners and ported plenum get me halfway there or not enough to notice?

Would there be any significant gains here and would I feel it in the SOTP? Thanks! :-)

It will all help (I'm guessing 15chp), but to take full advantage of the runners, either heavily port your base or go aftermarket. A good 2.5' exhaust and 1.6 rockers will help rid your motor of its newfound breathing capacity.

i would get a used Accel SR manifold, and throw the GM stock one off a mountain. SOTP will get a good kick in it with your AS&M runners.

Your stock intake (base & runners) flows around 198cfm; stock base with AS&M runners will flow around 214cfm. so you could expect at most a 8% gain in power.

But since your stock heads cannot use this much flow I don't think you would see more than 10 chp.
