clutch pedal hard to push
I have a 1987 vette with 4+3 transmission. 2 weeks ago I had to push the clutch pedal to the floor to change gears. My mechanic changed the slave and master clutch cylinder and it felt grreat untill after driving in traffic and using the clutch a lot. Now it is really hard to press the pedal and there is a slight "catch" sometimes when I press. The gears change without grinding and the clutch otherwise is smooth. I have 184,000 miles on the car and this is the original clutch. What could be wrong?

Check the condition of the plastic bushing on the pin on the clutch pedal. The rod from the master clutch cylinder has a clevis on its end which fits over the bushing on the clutch pedal. If the bushing splits, the rod goes off at an angle when depressing the clutch and this makes the clutch effort much higher and also requires more pedal throw. I'm not at home, but if you want the GM part number for the bushing, I'll post it when I get home.

That bushing fell apart on my '87 as well. Some very nice member on the forum (its been so long since it happened that I can't remember who) sent me a new bushing that they had machined out of delron. It has been flawless ever since.

Scorp, I was the one that sent you the bushing. I machined one for myself shortly before yours went out and mine is also still working and I have 202k miles on my 87 and drive it everyday. The GM bushing is made of polycarbonate plastic which is the wrong kind of plastic for bushing service with the amount of force it undergoes. They should have made them out of nylon or delrin.

Hmm. And there's no way in hell one would have fit in there either, unless it was realllly thin.
