Default Has anyone put a LT1 or LT5 engine in a 1986 (L98)?

I want to do something with my engine this winter. Just curious of anyone has placed an LT 1 or LT5 in a L98. Is there a conversion kit? What are the problems?

Thanks

There have been a few mods done this way.

Tommy Morrison, Lingenfelter and a few of the other LT5 shops have done convertible LT5's for customers. If you have the $$, go for it....but you'd be better off spending it on a standard Chevy SB with some heavy mods. You'll come out WAYYYY ahead in $$, and the thoughts of that GM $20k motor breaking your bank account won't worry your sleep at night.

If you want an LT5, it might be better and definetly easier to buy a ZR1 vette. They aren't that much money considering your getting a car for about 1/2 sticker or less. Some are in the low 20s. You need the six speed for the LT5 too. That reminds me, I need to get one too.

The LS1 is worth consideration. Its got an aluminum block, sequential fi, dist less ignition and really good heads (I think they are similar in flow potential to 18 deg small block heads). Crate motor is about 5K with everything. You need the trans from an F body with the same motor. GM changed the bellhousing on the LS1. :(

You could get a rocket block small block and make a really big small block. 427 or more.

Ode to the LT5 :blueangel: :seeya, Don't know why GM didn't make that the slightly more expensive vette motor in 90 instead of the ZR1 fiasco (70K C4 ). So go ahead and make it an 8K option , but put it into the standard C4. Skip the bigger body, special windshield, metal booster. Oh well, what could have been. GM marketing -> :clown :clown (good found a place for this figure).
