Default How loud should a K&N intake be?

My K&N air intake is pretty loud, too loud I think. It makes a loud whirring noise that is actually a little louder than the engine. Is this normal, or is something wrong? Thanks

All you are doing is sucking in air so you should be good. My K&N filter with cut lid is loud but it sounds good. You shouldn't have anything to worry about.

yeah the cut air filter cover and K&N really let the air in and you can hear it!! funny growing up i all ways loved the sound of a old holley D/B or Rochester when the fours barrels kicked in. but when you hit the pedal on a tpi vette she sounds good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well when you can here it over the burn out!!!!!!

the K&N/Cut Lid combo should make a sucking sound, much like the air incoming on a vacuum.

If you are hearing a whurring sound, I would check belts and/or accessories.

Yeah I figured it should make a sucking sound, but it just seems to be louder than it should be. The intake has been on the car since I got it, so I'm not sure how it sounded when it was first put on, but I'll go see if anything is loose on it.

What should the counts be?
How did you set them?
UH..Like..mine makes an extra-loud sucking/whurring sound too.
I thought it was a vaccum leak, but it runs too strong for that (I think.)
Mine has the conical air filter attached directly to the throttle body, so I rekon there is no way to reduce that noise, but it doesn't bother me.
I'll just get long tubes; that should mask the intake noise.

iac counts should be 10-12 at idle....you want the iac to read .55-.62 use a volts meeter...between your iac motor and you throttle screw you should be able to get it right...this will be a hole lot easyer with a datalogger...thats the only way i know how to do it..took me about 5-10mins do a search for it there might be other ways
