Default Heat shield for starter or solenoid?

I have a very bad heat soak problem with my starter. Should I get a heat shield for the starter or will a shield just for the solenoid work. I will have to order the one for the starter but I can get the one for the solenoid at the local parts house for about $3. I want to pull the starter only once so any help would appreciated.
