I was looking at getting a pair of Dart Iron Eagles used and getting them ported and worked for my 86 L98 383 rebuild... I found some on Ebay for around $700-$750.00, hope that helps I know for my 86, most here think the stock heads are only good for doorstops...

Got mine off of ebay as well... I had them mildly ported and polished. They are the 180's with 64 cc chambers and 2.02/1.6" valves. I may be selling them soon. They are setup with Crane dual springs for up to .600" lift.

A friend used Edelbrock E-tec heads with the smaller ports. It worked very well with the stock cam. Big improvement. He had to buy a different intake base to match the heads though. I think he spent about $1300 for the whole deal.

ok,
Alan Johnson heads.
Got $3,000.00 laying around?

Kidding aside, is the motor stock?
I have found that 1 CFM of air = 2 HP.

400 RWHP? You can't be serious.

Anyone seen even a 350 RWHP (heads, cam, intake) L98? Anyone?

Be patient, AFR is coming out with new heads that are suppose to blow the competition away (I know they have been saying this for awhile, but a friend received a brochure in the mail). Not sure of the price though.

just my .02

My 350 L98 Carb converted motor made 430 HP at the crank on the engine dyno yesterday. Installation in the coming days, then chassis dyno and tune.

Well there could be several heads that support 400rwhp, but you wont get 400rwhp. I got an email about the new AFR heads, they could be dynamite, but you wont need a head like that unless youre going all out, which you havent elaborated on.

You need to come up with a goal and then make a plan. Stockers are great, to a point. It depends on whether that point is both within your price range and is within your goals.

As far as choices, you can go to Summit and look at any GEN I SBC head in the 170-200cc range, and they'll bolt to your block and wont be terribly far off. But they'll have vastly different characteristics from each other, which is why its important to have that plan and match parts accordingly. (Dart, Brodix, AFR, TFS, Edelbrock.....)

Lol, you need to get off the corvette forum. Check out www.thirdgen.org, or the TPI section on www.cz28.com

The best I've ever seen with Stockers is 25hp and it was in Vette or Corvette Fever several Years back with the caveat that anyone who claims to have done better has been smoking a little too much weed. Scoggins and Dickey does - or did - offer a set but they were a bit pricey. OEM current production includes the LT4 springs and retainers and a nifty set up on the intake gaskets which go along way in stopping leaks (front and rear holes are counterbored for gasket retainers which keep the gaskets from slipping when you lay in the manifold - finding the gaskets can be a challenge). Vortechs seem to offer a better choice at a reasonable price, but when you add the manifold, the price difference isn't clear and the weight penalty might negate any gains.

Sorry, just being a bit of a smart a**.

I forgot about MSEVEN, he's probably making some nice hp with some ported AFR's and miniram etc. I guess I was thinking small. I'd be happy to get to around 340 RWHP with 180ish heads and SR.

Miniram or steath ram or single plane etc. and big 190 + ported heads/big cam + tuning, strong lower end, could get you there. But things are getting pretty serious at these power levels.
