Average Life of Bilsteins?
What is the average life of the Bilstein shocks? (Non Z51)
My car has 39K, but the front drivers side shock shows some fluid on the side. I'm not sure if my ride is rough or normal, it seems to hop and the steering wheel jerks when going around some bumpy turns.
What does it cost to rebuild them, and who does this?
Thanks

I've still got my OEM Bils on the back and they work fine. 95,000 MILES

130K+ on original Bilsteins, no sign of leaks, no bouncing. I have no reason to believe there is anything wrong.
Hopping around on rough corners seems to be a C4 trait :( .
I understand Bilstein will rebuild them for $50 a piece. Call them.

I can deal with the hopping as long as it is what is normal.
At 50 bucks a piece I would rather just buy new ones.

Sounds like you need shocks. Leaking is the first sign and hopping does not seems right. Both my z51s do not hop. My Jeep GC started hopping at 95,000 and its Bilsteins were shot. My 85 original Bilsteins are fine at 54,000 but my 88 at 29,000 are starting to leak slightly - will replace them soon.If a shock leaks it can not hold pressure and should be replaced.

I have Bilstein fx3 shocks and I was told they should last 100,000+
they are $400 each and the actuators are $400 each...that means $3200 not including labor if done at the dealer. I can get the same parts for one half of that, but thats still a lot for shocks :yesnod: oh well...nothing is cheap on this baby :( :cry   :D :seeya

just replaced my fx-3 shocks on a 1990 car @ 90k miles with some normal bilstein sports from shox.com at $279 a set it was a lot cheaper than $199/ea for the fx-3 which was always in performance anyway as well as actuators if i had any bad ones. those also are $199 each. the shocks were definatly worn compared to the new ones, still had pressure but NO rebound control, shocks are like everything else, they ware out.
