Default Knock Sensor Bad?

How would I know if my knock sensor is bad? I do hear some knocking under certain acceleration, but not all of the time. I have not been receiving any lights to tell me otherwise.

The knock sensor is supposed to sense the knocking thats going on and signal the system. The ecm most likley will retard the timing to correct the problem if possible. If knock sensor is working on my 85 on can check it by rasing the idle and tapping on the exhaust manifold on the passenger side. I will notice a drop in rpm's if it's working.
