Default Afr Vs. Dart Heads

I am buying new heads to put on my new engine. It is a TPI style 396 stroker with a mini ram and vortech supercharger. I am concidering either AFR 195cc heads or Dart 200cc pro1 heads. The darts flow 2 more cfm on intake, but 10 less cfm an exhaust. Another consideration is the Darts are availible right now, not in 3 months and they are $200 less. Any input is appriciated.

They flow relatively the same so besides the wait for the AFR's, look at how much more efficent the combustion chambers are from one another. Nothings wrong with the Darts,i've just been pointed out before the benefits over AFR's v.s. other heads. If you can wait for the AFR's...wait.

It sounds like delivery @ $$ is your criteria, if you are gonna charge the car, then the Darts are not a bad choice.

They are so close that the reason I'm going with the Darts is that I wont have to wait forever and spend the extra $$$.

If you are comparing using AFR's website flow numbers be advised that their new heads are available. The 195's are at 300cfm now. It is probably the most efficient runner available.

I posted an email from Tony Mamo announcing there availability a few months ago. You may want to call them or contact "tjwong" here and inquire about wait time. It is supposedly something they have addressed. Time will tell though (sorry for very stupid pun)

BTW, I cannot figure out why they sent emails saying they are available and have not updated the website

I wish I had the cash to dump my 210's for the 195's now...

I had a set of Darts on my 66 Chevelle and they were one of the best purchases I could possibly make and the cost was extremely reasonable! I would go with the Darts plus you can get them on now and start having fun!

Thanks,Matt

A really great thing I can say for Dart, when my heads were 6 months old I had a couple of springs getting weak. I called Dart tech, 3 days later I had all new springs, locks, keepers & seals n/c. I am a very much satisified customer. Hip

Call me at AFR tomorrow if you have the time...

You might regret not giving serious consideration to our all new Eliminator 23' heads just being released. The 195 Street head goes 280 CFM....better yet its over 275 @ .500 lift ($1400 currently with our low introductory pricing....100% CNC ported). The new Comp 195 should touch 300 CFM but is another 2 months or so away unfortunately but we are accepting orders right now. All the Eliminators are fitted with 8mm valve and lightweight springs and retainers (like our successful Gen III stuff). You should start to see some magazine tests in the months ahead that Im sure will turn heads. Unless your in a mad rush you might consider waiting. We have just started trickling out the first 180 and 195 street heads so you might get some independent input reasonably soon. These are the most efficient 23' heads on the market today, bar none. Check the current issue of Engine Masters magazine for an 8 page highly detailed article concerning the new heads. If your even considering heads in the near future for your SBC, its worth a trip to the newstand....lots of pics and hardcore data.

Anyway....hope some of this info helps.

Tony M.

I sent a email a couple of weeks ago and requested info on these heads and prices and did no receive a response. Ordered 195's from Jegs but haven't got them shipped yet. Should I cancel and wait? Anyway, if you have any info to give now is the time so I can make a decision. Will the match up to a TPIS miniram and TPIS headers? Thanks. Send info to malcolmmar@msn.com

No need to wait, I have an extra set of AFR 195 just laying around, brand new in the box. I opened the box, took one head out, screwd in a sprak plug to check the reach, and put them away. $1200 shipped!
