Clogged catalytic converter ?
I noticed my 95 LT1 doesn't burn rubber. My first vette was an 84. I remember it would light the tires easily.I checked the mufflers and noticed very little air is coming out.Can it be the catalytic converter is clogged? Can I clean out the catalytic? Will it damage anything?

Have a good local muffler shop check your system back pressure. I have never heard of cleaning a cat. Simply replace when needed. I just replaced my main cat and can tell a diff.

Mine was clogged I picked up 2 mpg after removing it. I also had a rattling noise coming from it. Be carefull, when it gets bad enough it can shoot out the tailpipe and damage other cars.

I read somewhere that youhave to drive your car for a while at night, then stop your car and check from underneath, If the cat is clogged it will shine red because of all the heat.
Would not be a bad idea to check it. Another idea was to get it out and look if the cat is desintegrating from the inside. Tap it a little bit to see if some parts of the interior come out.
Of course the best test is to have a pollution check. If it is not good a lot of hidrocarbons will show up in the test, your engine will be running to rich.

Do a search on your specific car and motor.

I wonder if cats can just get restricted over time and/or mileage, that is they aren't necessarily 'clogged' but they aren't flowing at the rate as when new, like maybe they only flow 75% of what they did when new. Is this a possibility?
