Top speed of LT1 vs L98
When the L98 engine was introduced in 1985, GM gladly advertized a top speed of 152 mph for the 1985 Corvette. When the new LT1 engine was introduced in 1992, the 300 horsepower was considerably higher than the early L98s. However, I have not been able to find anywhere that the top speed of the 1992 Corvette is stated. Does anyone know what those cars were able to do when new? How about the other performance figures such as 0 - 60, and quarter mile times?

Some guys say their stock LT1's top out at 150, some say over 170 which I find hard to believe.

I thought it was around 160, but what difference does it make when you're never going to drive at that speed.
For '92, you can expect around 5.5 to 60, and on average mid/upper 13s in the 1/4mi bone stock.

A piddly 45hp difference (91 vs. 92) is next to nothing as far as top speeds are concerned due to aerodynamics, but with the LT1 making hp in a higher RPM range it can pull the gears out longer. I can tell you though that my '87 topped out at 154mph and took miles to get there. It would NOT go any faster.
Now is a whole different story.

Page 300 of "Corvette 50th Annjversary" by the auto editors of Consumer Guide indicates a Car and Driver test for the LT1 produced 5.1 zero to 60 and 161 mph top end.

My car isn't an L98 or LTx.... I have an 84 vette that had crapfire injection (not now)... In FL I was able to top out at 158 all stock but a chip... took a while to get there. That is what my speedo read out and I know that I was going fast. I had no idea that an 84 would go that fast...

I got a MT article showing '93 LT1 topped out 172, stock. Try to post a scan in the morning. Also had another mag from same time period showing 168. I like 170 'cause it's a nice round figure I can verify with two separate mag articles.

The LT1 should hit 173 mph when it has enough room to actually hit the limiter in 5th. I believe many tests are done on a road not long enough for the car to pull that speed and thats why there's conflicting top speed results. I have 2 articles here, one which is the bang for the buck test in 1994 where the copper 94 hit 170 mph with a slight tailwind.
I hit 319 km/hr 2 hours ago

Motor Trend, April 1992, Supercar Shootout, 172.2 mph. One of my fave articles of all time. Before internet, mags like this was the best info we had.
(Anyone wants this article, make sure you right click and save the images to your computer because I'll probably take it off my site after this thread goes stale.) also FWIW, it's missing individual profile pages of the other cars...I didn't care to scan them all in.

aw.. I was enjoying that reading, too bad you didnt have the whole thing
I just took my 95 up to 136 (according to the spedo) and it made it there with ease in 3rd (auto) w/WOT. 130 was at about 4.5-5k rpm so it would have switched into OD shortly after and who knows how long it would have taken it to max then, but I was on 405 at 3 AM, so there were no cars but the road surface was CRAP and I didnt feel like pushing my luck without newer tires.
