Lots of opinions on this one but I had to replace mine on a '93 just a few weeks ago. I asked the vette mechanic at the dealership to put in a vented and he said that he wouldn't if he was me. I asked why and said that he replaced a lot more of them faster than the non-vented for what its worth.

opti
Just took my old opti apart
no rust
cap and rotor a bit worn
the vacuum lines I put on are still in good shape JB weld held all fittings
I guess the electonic part that sends the high resolutin pulse is my problem since I was giving a code 36 .
what do you think

There is no "guess" here... it WAS the electronics - specifically the optical pickup - that have failed. How do the bearings feel when you spin the shaft?
If you want the quick way out, simply RTV the cap and body seal on the new opti. That will help a ton to keep moisture out of the opti. Otherwise, the rubber seal will dryrot and become nearly useless.

I am the 3rd owner of a 92 with 50K miles. Not aware if the Opti has been replaced. How many miles did you have on it the first time you had to replace it ? How long did the first Opti last ?
I thought mine was bad a month ago but it turned out to be a loose coil wire. I was going to replace with a Dynaspark. Will replace Opti and water pump just as a precaution when I get a spare grand.
