Questions about High-Flow Cats, and Long Tube Headers. (On 95')
Is it true that if I put on Long Tube Headers, that I have to take my cats off?
Also, where is the best place to buy high flow cats?
I know Random Tech. is supposed to be the best, but they are way to expensive for what they do. Aren't there another less expensive High-Flow cats that provide just about the same performance?
And if it is true that I have to take off my cats to put on long tube headers (which I dont want to remove cats for emmission visual purposes), then where can I get Shorty Headers?

Answers are within the quote in BOLD

Yes, since the Long Tubes would move them back further. With an Auto you won't have the space on the sides for them

Random Cats are good. I have those on my car. dual 2-1/5" bullet cats

There are others. Depends on size constraints, etc

Shorty's are not worth the $$ IMO. stay stock and buy a set of used cats and gut them instead

Car Sound cats outflow Random and all other cats. That is what I am in the process of putting on mine rigth now and I have several other buddies running these. They run about $100 each.

Jeff,
I am not sure of the exact part number for them, but I am also running a 6 speed so tranny clearance, as you stated, is less of an issue. The drop right in after the header collector after my exhaust guy finishes with them. They are a 3" in/out bullet cats.

vette92,
i am also interested in where you got them from as i would like to eventually put some cats behind my hooker longtube headers. i feel they would eliminate the raw fuel smell. also please post how performance was compromised fom before, ie. time trial etc or dyno numbers if you had previous numbers. i am very curious about that! thanks amillion!

Didn't know about the CATCO or Car Sound cats. Could you share the source or web site for these?
I just got a pair of Random Tech bullet cats, 3" inlet/outlet, 11" overall length, cat length about 7" with 4" OD, all stainless steel construction. They were fairly expensive at about $150 each. These will be going behind a new set of TPIS full length tubes... IF THEY EVER GET HERE! Been on back order for 2 weeks.
I'm going to initially install these cats with band clamps and have some test pipes made up to swap out with them so I can try some dyno and track testing with and without cats. Should prove interesting.
I may also install an x-pipe just behind the cats if I can shoe horn one in there. I'm trying to retain my existing PowerEffects resonator.

Hutch,
that Xpipe idea is going to be tight to fit.. I have Hooker Long tubes and 2-1/2" random cats then a Flowmaster LT1 cat back. I had to do quite a bit of work to get it all to fit. since I needed reducers off the headers. I am going to pull my Cats off next and try that to see how well it works. I think if I wanted to stick with the Cats I will try to find 3" in/out with a flange on the inlet side to bolt to the Hookers.

Bought the Mor Flow high flow cats from IRS at $89 each. Picked up 12HP/TQE at the wheels with the Headers, Cats and Xpipe.

Geez... those CATCO cats are only $59.99 each, less than 1/2 the price of the RT units I bought. Wonder if they're as good? Looks like they are only available in 2-1/2" size though and I definitely wanted 3".
Jeff, do you have an auto or manual trans? The sticks have quite a bit more room to work with down there than the autos. Good idea about mounting the cats directly to the header collectors, though. I might look into that. I still think I should have just enough room to mount an x-pipe just aft of the trans ahead of my PowerEffects resonator. Will have to be a shorty, though. We'll soon see.

Car Sound used to have a website, but I can not find it any longer.

Chris, Is this the web site?

Chris, which model do you have? Maybe you can tell from looking at the models in the site.
