Default Transgo Shift Kit

I bought a Transgo 700-2&3 shift kit for my 88 Vette and hope someone out there who has installed one can give me some clarification on how my trans will react after installation between drive and overdrive (3rd and 4th gear). On the street if i leave trans gearshift lever in overdrive will trans automatically shift from drive to overdrive or am i going to have to manually shift between the two. Also if i am on the highway and mash down on the accelerator pedal in overdrive will trans automatically select passing gear or will i have to manually downshift to drive. Page one instructions say high throttle 3-4 shift controlled by lever, am not sure what this means. Forgot to mention i have the type 2 valve body if it makes a difference. Also a big red nylon? check ball was in kit and there is no mention of it in instructions. Only place i can figure that it goes is to replace large steel check ball on upper lip of valve body for the TV valve assembly. Is this correct? Lastly any tips for modifying this kit for the street would be appreciated. Not real comfortable drilling holes in the valve body and hammering plugs into the trans case.

If you don't get the answers here try the TransGo page or call their Tech line.

When a shop was doing my TransGo install they messed up my TC lockup and blamed it on the shift kit. A quick call to TransGo got me all the answers.

Go to a reputable transmission specialist. I had a Transgo 700 installed in my 88 by a Tranny shop. I had to bring it back 3 times before they got it right. The first time it worked well but I had no OD. They fixed that and I had a very minor leak. Now it's OK. If it's done right it's a good shift kit. But it's more complicated than a B&M.

The transgo install is a bitch. Tough, tough job. It must be removed from the car to install the complete kit. The kit will allow full auto upshifts(including 3-4). None ofthe kits I have installed contained a big red nylon check ball. If you are confident in your ability, I would not discourage you from installing it.

Pete K thanks for the reply. Will i still retain an automatic passing gear if im on the highway and mash down on the pedal with the trans in overdrive ? If this kit will still let me retain all the fully automatic features it came with i'll go for it. Had Hughes out here in Phoenix do my trans a few years back and told them not to shift kit it. They did their street/strip version with all the h/d stuff including billet servo assembley so i decided why not shift kit it. One thing that puzzles me is when i went to pull out the pressure regulator assembly from the pump it would not budge after taking the circlip off. Ended up drilling and tapping the bottom of the TV boost bushing and pulling it out with a bolt and piece of angle iron. When i got the boost valve out it miced out at .560. The biggest one ive seen on the market is .500. Ever heard of one this big? Figure i'll step it down to a .471 or .422. Thanks

Hydraulic suction makes it tough to remove. The part to mic is the inside bore where the small valve lives. If the od of the small valve is that big, I have never heard of one that large.
The kit will allow for full auto upshifts.

I have the same shift kit. It works pretty good, but, If I leave the stick in d, coming to a stop, during it's downshift it clunks pretty loud. With stick in od it works fine. anybody run into that?
Pete, that is what I was going to ask you about.

I completed the install from the pan only mods saving the other part for/if I ever have to pull the whole trans.

It came with a video and decent instructions. It was a lot of fun (my first time doing it), and I got HUGE results out of the car afterwards.

I highly recommend this kit!
