Default Qs about a street Miniram 434 SBC...

Since I have 2 other vehicles for daily drivers, I'm planning on going out more extreme on my C4. Basically the goal in mind is to run this on premium pump gas. I plan to spin this motor no higher than 6000 rpms. I see you can get a really nice street iron headed 434 from Shafiroff Racing here:

http://ultrastreet.net/434_realstreet.asp

My Miniram is currently a 1204. Now is it possible to port match it to the 215cc heads in this package or should I just get the big port 1206 Miniram instead?

Some other questions:
Has anyone dealt with Shafiroff before? If so what was your experience with their work? thanks!

My opinion is the sealing surface will be to small opening it up that much - give tpis a call and see what they say, you could always have more meat welded to the flanges as another option

I welded my 1205-MR on the top side of the intake port to a ported 1206, no problem. I have AFR 210's

I did what Larry did cuz Larry did it and told me about it. Worked out great. I had the same heads.

I took it to a local machine shop / tool shop and they welded a bead and milled it smooth.

The difference between the value of your 1205 used MR and a new 1206 MR is probably more than having it modified.

So how reliable is a mild cammed street hydraulic roller 434 if well maintained? How many miles before I have to take it apart to check to see if it should be overhauled? I'll also be installing a Dana 44 rear end shortly. Would you think the rear will hold up as long as I don't hook hard on the street?

If the cam and compression are mild, I see no reason it should not live a long life. I personally would expect it to go 50k or better without issues. I would probably changethe valve springs every couple of years if it were me.

Since this isn't gonna be a high revving motor, would it be pointless to use stiffer high performance valve springs vs. standard duty OEM spec springs?

As Pete K said, the valvetrain events will dictate the springs as much as RPM. If you have a lot of lift with fast ramps, you will still need strong springs.

I would spend 995.00 more and get the next motor up from that one ,you will be much happier with the 595 hp engine, also that holley is a much better carb than the other motor.
Talk to Jay and tell him John from Hawaii said he is a great guy and that carb better work this time!!!
I have been dealing with them for over a year.
Just don't go Barry Grant on what ever you build.
If you ask Jay I think that motor comes with a 2 year 24 mths warranty.
They build these motors fast so be ready to install it soon after you order one.
I like my 434 and it tears up the trans on a regular bassis.
The rear end has held together pretty good.A few half shafts that is all .
I got a reverse manuel valve body 700r4 trans from Monster trans in Florida but they are not good to deal with .I would go with Raptor in LA they are honest and don't lie to you like Monster trans does and make excuses.
I had a buddy repair the 700R4 for me after it broke the 2nd run down the track and it has held up for 5 mths of 10 second passes we installed the Zpack to make it work.
Yes it is the 700 hp verson 434.
I can say I have 100's of runs on it.
This is the best engine for the money I have found out their!!
