Default GMPP 1.6 Roller vs. Comp Magnum 1.6 Roller Tip Rockers - Noise

Ok, some of you may have seen my other posts concerning my noisy GMPP 1.6 RRs (Crane Gold). I found they tick/rattle a little too much for my taste. I like my car to be quiet under the hood. Also, with hot oil, at certain RPMs they would tick so bad I was getting a few knock counts while sitting in neutral in my garage. It was NOT adjustment. I tried 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1 turn and it made no difference at all. Even installed a new set of lifters... no difference.

I read some other posts here that Comp-Cams 1.6 Magnum roller tip rockers are much quieter. A couple of folks in particular had my exact problem. So today I installed a set and can confirm that they are MUCH quieter. No problem with knock counts and the tick/rattle sounds are gone. Engine sounds nice and smooth again. I can still hear the sewing machine sound but that's normal IMO and not so loud. I think I'll be happy with the roller tips.

Performance? I notice no difference in the SOTP meter. I also did a few runs using my G-Tech Pro and got results identical to the GMPP full rollers. Moral of the story.... if you don't like ticky full roller rockers then buy CompCams Magnum p/n 1418-16.

P.S. Anyone want a set of GMPP 1.6 RR with 1800 miles on them? Make an offer if you do.

Yeah, I'm glad too. The engine sounds so much smoother now, just quieter I guess. More like it was when it was stock.

Thanks for the info. From looking at Jeg's the Comp roller tipped are also lot less money than the Crane true rollers.

I just installed the 1.6 Roller tips as well. I adjusted them, and they do still have a small amount of noise. I have been trying to eliminate the noise all together, but you say you think that sewing machine noise is normal. Interesting. I have not run mine hard yet, but I was going to try adjusting them again, but maybe the small noise is normal? Hmmm.

Atok,

Are you still happy with these rockers? I am thinking about of getting them also.

Thanks,
Steve

I've still got a full set of GMPP 1.6RR here. I'll never use them again so I guess they are for sale.

Thanks for the response...I think I am going to order them today. I will post my results also. Just so you know, I also changed my lifters!

Was it quieter with the stock rockers, or is it quieter now?

Thanks again,
Steve

I installed Comp Pro Magnums 1.6 RRs. They are much quieter than my stock stamped rockers.

I am looking at new heads. I probably will go with 7/16ths studs.

I'll part with the Scorpions if anyone's interested. They are 3/8ths 1.6 narrow body self aligning.

I would say they are about the same as the stock rockers. Maybe slightly more mechanical sounding but basically sound like stock.
