Power Brake Booster
Hi All,
Replaced original brake booster with a rebuilt one due to hard braking on my 84. I still have have no power assist and I'm hearing a swooshing sound coming through the firewall at the brake pedal area when I depress the brake pedal.
So....I am getting vacuum to the brake booster but it sounds like its leaking. Could this be a defective brake booster or what?
Thanks

Does sound like the new booster is bad. Where did you get it from?
So many posts on bad boosters, I am now more motivated to try a rebuild it myself to make sure its done right. Never been down that road, but at least I will retain my metal booster.
I know it’s a bit tricky but so are some other things the first time.

Got the rebuilt booster from Advance Auto. Hope the replacement is good. Had the same problem with a defective MC from them for the same car not too long ago. Shoddy rebuilts from their suppliers, or what?

Congratulations on your success. You just gained extra experience.
This should not happen to anybody. Checking a rebuild booster is not rocket science. Put vacuum to it, check the action and for leeks.
