Default K&N vs Fram Air Hog???

Anyone know how these two compare to each other? The K&N's are almost $70 new and I can pick up a Fram Air Hog for under $40. They claim its the same filter material as K&N so I'm curious to hear if anyone has experience with them.

I dont think you'll see any difference between the two.

They are not the same but use the same principal of an oil washed cotton gauze filtering media. So does a company named BMC filters.

The Fram's are actuall pretty nice. I bought 2 of them to use in my and my GF's Jeeps. Fit perfectly, seal up nice and tight on the air box and its lid. I was amazed at the quality for the price considereing how crappy Fram is...

Of course K&N's are well know. I have one in my 92 LT1 Vette and one in her 05 Mustang as well as my 00 Triumph Speed Triple. All work and fit great.

Do the Frams have the same polyurethane surround? The K&N does, and it doesn't make for a good seal on the stock airbox.

Its hard to judge from just handling both filters at different times and not comparing them side by side but the Frams do have a rubber like material to seal them to the air box (its much firmer than a typical paper filter surround). If its as firm as the rubber K&N uses I don't know for sure but its pretty firm IMO. Like I said thou, it did fit and seal up well in our Jeeps... which I know, I know, is very different than the huge filter the Corvette has...

I have a fram airhog on my 94K1500, entirely different beast but the fram is a big 2" tall full round filter. I've had no problems, even washed and re-oiled with K&N kit, still running strong. I've used K&N flat and round filters before and don't see much difference except for the color, which changes if you use the K&N recharge kit.

Maybe some of the hardcore engi gurus will chime in but I believe even a basic paper outflows most intake manifolds.

hmm, so nothing negative so far. This seems like a great, inexpensive alternative to the standard K&N monopoly. Since they claim it is good for up to 250k miles I can't see how it can be that bad. Anyone know where the best deal on one is? The fram webpage isnt working for me so I can't get the part number.
