Transmission fluid-Type F vs. Dexron III
I think it might have been in either one of my 350 THM books or my 700R4 repair manual...
Does Type F tranny fluid have more friction modifiers in it than good ole factory recommended Dexron III, and if so, don't GM and Ford use the same paper-ish material on the clutches???

Some tranny Guru on the F-body forum confirmed that Type-F does have more friction modifiers, but not to use them in your GM auto trannies. I don't know about the clutch material.

Sorry about the dupe post then...I never ventured to the F-body forum. Must have been a coincidence that I brought it up around the same time. Just saw lots of people talking about playing with the TV cable and buying expensive B&M fluid, so I thought it would have been an appropriate time.
I guess next time I have a question about buying new carpet, I should look in the 'Wheels and Tires' section  Thanks, -Matt-

The type "F" was designed for use with Asbestos clutches, the type found in Ford till 1977. From then on paper type clutches are used in everything. According to Borg Warner, Raybestoes, & Hydramatic, the type "F" fluid has apx. 12-17% less holding power on dynamic clutches and bands when compared to approved Dexron 3. Ford type "F" has more static holding power,(neutral to drive) but this is not a problem with any 700R4 or 2004R transmission. When GM transmissions come in that have ran type "F" fluid, we have seen faster wear on parts. I would stay away from type "F", B&M Trick Shift or equvilant. If you like synthetics use Amsoil (best) or Red Line (2nd best).
Hope This Helps!!!
