Default 1987 Bumper Adjustment

Help. I have a 1987 vette that the front bumper is 1/4 higher on the driver's side. All the other gaps are good. How do I lower the bumper on the driver's side.

Thanks

I have been fighting with a brand new bumper mounting on my 84--the process is killing me. Not knowing exactly what your situation is you might try adjusting the impact bar a little down on the higher side? It is mounted to the front frame extension with two-nuts on each side. They will be in the vicinity of hood hinges just to the front--one near top and the other lower. Hope you have small hands? And, this is just a suggestion.

There are the four 13mm mounting nuts, but you also need to loosen the bottom bracket on each side, (two 10mm bolts). It is also better to loosen all of the front inner fender well bolts (10 mm) where they mount to the frame to enable the bumper assembly to "float" while you adjust it. Remember, when you tighten everything up the adjustment may move on you, causing you to do this several times. If you are very close, sometimes you can adjust the cover on the mounting top mounting bolts to raise or lower the cover to make it level all the way across. It is also sometime necessary to adjust the side/corner brackets to get the edges/corners to align properly (sometimes 1/8" is as close as you can get).

Have you checked for slop in the hood hinges?
