Thanks Tim,
The 85-86 have a different distributor than the 87 and up, I wanted to make sure the 8366 would work in it. I just need to get the wiring adapters from http://www.jimsperformance.com/for the 85-86 and it will work.
Thanks,
PS
I hope your wife liked the new engine. If she's like mine your sleeping on the couch now

opel,
Information here is that for '85 there was an #1103595 distributor and
then an #1103680 one. The #1103680 distributor is indicated for
successive years through e-1990 production. (For l-1990, there was a
change to the #1103879 and that version was used till the end of L98
production in 1992.)
If you have a late '85 with a #1103680 distributor then my vote is that
the MSD 8366 will work provided that an harness adapter, an external
coil and the coil harness sections are acquired.
A consideration for engines prior to the '87 roller/1-pc rear seal versions
may be the choice of distributor gear. The '87 & later L98s ought to
have GM's melonized gear or an equivalent. However, I do not know
whether there is any reason to avoid using the melonized gear
with the cast flat tappet cams used in the pre-87 engines.

It'll work but you need to change gears. The 8366 will come with a melonized to use with factory roller cam, this material is not meant to be used with flat tappet cam that an 85 would be equipped with.
I just looked at Summit's info and they state the gear is iron with no mention of being melonized, so my comment might be wrong, but I'd be inclined to do some further investigation.
