1996 F45 suspension reliability?
Anybody that has specifically a 1996 with F45 select ride please chime in here. From what I understand the 1996 uses a different system than 1995 and older models with select ride.
I am going to be ready to buy a 1996 CE and I'm considering if I should get it with F45 or without. From a maintenance and reliability standpoint I would guess the base suspension is a trouble free system. On the other hand, the F45 is just very cool IMO and would really like to have it on the car.
Please let me know your experiences and maintenance issues. From reading through the forum archives I understand that the 1996 system is very reliable and more so than 1995 and older.
Thanks!

I have the f45 and if I had the oppurtunity to do it over I would not have got it.At the time I wanted an LT4 and did'nt know the 96 setup was different. One of my rear shocks was leaking and when I waent to the dealer the shocks are discontinued and he could'nt find me a whole set. They werent cheap either.
They are not rebuildable and no one makes a direct replacement that matches this setup.
I ended up doing the tip on www.grandsportregistry.net with bilsteins(non adjustable)but the idiot light still comes on.If I ever tackle removing the display I will remove the bulb.
They were made by delphi and they do not service them or make them anymore.

OUCH! That really stinks. Just when I found one with super low miles and it has the F45. How many miles did yours have on it when you noticed the problem?
Jeez I can't believe there is nothing available! The car isn't really that old either.
Anybody else want to chime in?

I was at 95k when I realized it.The car was pretty soft except for on the stiffest setting and then it was harsh.
When it was new I am sure it was a fine system. If they had stayed with the FX3 everything would be hunky dory.
If you like everything else on the car you should buy it so long as you know you will be facing this down the road.
After installing the new bilsteins I could really tell how bad mine were.Night and day difference. The handling is better and the ride is good also.
