turbo 400 in C4

I put a th400 in my C4, but, I also put in a Gear Vendors so that has the mounting for the torque arm. Check out my web site for some info about it. It's very expensive. We put a ZF6 manual trans in my son's '87 and I think I'd do that if I had the choice over.

If you wish to retain the stock "C" beam then you need to fabricate a adapter that duplicates the tailshaft housing of a T700.
This mounts off the TH400 gearbox mount pad and tailshaft housing bolts
Need longer driveshaft as shorty TH400 is about 2" shorter than T700.
Have some pics archived from another members conversion if you want to see how its done.

Why a TH400 instead of a 350? They make an adapter to bolt a 700/4L60 rear tailshaft housing to a TH350. I used a 350 for years behind 600+hp so they can handle it. I might have one available soon if you're interested.
Good luck

It's not worth it unless you're making a ton of power. All the better parts from the 4L60E will retro right back into your 700, and it has the advantage of OD and lockup. (Runs cooler, doesn't beat up your engine and uses much less fuel.)
Something else: If you do it, the first thing you'll notice about the heavier units (400/4L80E) is the lazy first gear ratio. It can be kind of a turn off after driving a car that was peppier with the 700/th350 trans.
For a street or street/strip car, I would stick with a built 700/4L60. It'll be cheaper and a lot more drivable.
IMVHO.
