Default 84 Corvette Odometer Not Moving

Hi, new member here. I recently bought an 84 Corvette and didn't notice that the odometer wasn't working. It's stuck on 91365mi. I remember reading an article on Corvette Magazine by Gordon Killebrew that the odometer motor is replaceable (which is very hard to find, by the way ), but could it just be the motor that needs replacement? Has anyone else run into this problem?

Oh crap, you really don't know how many miles are on the car then.

No, I guess not, but I'm not really concerned with that. I don't mind if it's much greater than 91K, I just want it to work. I just recently fixed the digital dash, and it was a heckuva lot of trouble taking that dash out, replacing the bulbs, and fixing the ground wire to make it light up. So I figured, since I'm here, might as well fix that odometer, cuz I don't wanna have to unscrew everything all over again

Thanks for the offer, colin84vette, but before I make an offer and lay down $$$, I would like to know if the odometer motor is the reason my odometer is not working, which leads me to the question I made in the first place, "Has anyone out there had this similar problem on an 84-87 Vette, where your odometer stopped moving?"

If so, how did you fix it? I appreciate any and all feedback, thanks.

Fix it 5 months before you get rid of it.

Hey colin84Vette, if you still have that working odometer motor, I'd be willing to give you $30 for it, plus shipping.

I don't wanna go any higher than that, since I'm not even sure it's the motor that's broken. I just recently repaired the bad ground on my digital dash, replaced all the bulbs, and now everything works except that odometer, which is really bugging me.

Also, I need the plastic cover that goes underneath the driver's side dash, above the gas and brake pedals. A friend of mine broke it and now all the wires and alarm boxes are hanging out and make it hard to drive. Let me know if you have that as well, or if you know someone who does. Thanks!

Did you pull the cluster out to replace the bulbs? If so it is possible the 2 wire connector for the odometer is not plugged into the circuit board.

I made that mistake once, I hooked it up, but missed and only one pin was connected, but it looked like it was in.

If someone pulled the cluster apart before you owned it, this could be the case.

I would check that fisrt.

Sorry missed that in your last post.

I would take it out again and remove the connector and re-plug it it just to be sure.

Again, I did that once, pluged it in, it looked right at first glance, but it was not in properly.

I have the same problem dredd...my 85 vette odometer is not working. so if anyone has a fix it would help us both

Not to mention I broke the same plastic piece you mentioned. I am hoping I can repair mine since it was just a small corner section.

Yeah, I've looked all over Google, Corvette parts sites, and Ebay, and nobody seems to have these two particular parts. That's why I'm looking here. Don't you love it when an obsucure part fails on your car?!

HAHA -LOL that post you responded to is maybe 7+ years old and the poster has maybe figured that out. It was good for a "smile" for sure.
