Default c68 diagnostic

When I start my car up (88 coupe), the Ext Temp light flashes for about a mintue, which means that a sensor is bad according to the service manual.

The manual says there is a diagnostic mode in the C68 which helps identify the bad sensor. I'm supposed to press and hold the Rear Defog button, then press and release the Fan Manual Up button.

The temperature display is then supposed to show a number between 1 and 9. However, all I get is '00'.

Am I doing something wrong here?

Thanks.

Al.

Try the following links (don't know if they are applicable to a 1988 though):

and/or

I tried this on my car, but it didn't work.
The second link says that the information provided is good for 90 to 96 cars.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks.
