Default Dart 215 pro one platinum heads

Has anybody ran these heads? I thinking of ordering a set, And havn't talked to anybody that has ran them. Dart states they flow 259 @ .500 I read an article were they put them on a flow bench. dry and at .500 258 @ 28 inch of water and they flowed them wet @ 55 inches of water and they flowed at 312.6 @ .500. seems to me they be a good head to run on my 383. I know a lot of people think the world of AFR and recomend them all day long be their are other heads that flow just as good and better. I think I would like to try something different rather than just get what 80% of the other guys run. This should be fun

Thanks for any input Gr879shark

First, off you'll have to compare apples to apples...not many head companies are testing/publishing with wet flow numbers. So you'll have to use the 258 number vice the 300+ number.

Secondly, depending on your rpm/range look at the CC size of the intake runner. Though AFR seems to flow less than adv (just looking at several head flows), they do seem to hit higher flow numbers with a smaller port. My next choice would be a cnc'd brodix, a good head. (is there really a bad head?) Dart would be my next choice but would have to be ported to take advantage of its potential.

The thing to compare across the heads are spark plug fitment, low lift flow (both intake/exhuast), and exh flow. Most of my simulation runs showed that most street heads are deficient on exh flow...thus small improvement here yield better results than on the intake side.

the heads are the key, but just don't forget the total package (cam, converter, intake, exhuast system, computer control, etc...) when designing the end states. It never about just one component.

Sure they will be fine, most aftermarket heads these days are pretty decent. If you do port them watch out for the roof on the exhaust port, not much meat there.

before i bought my pro actions i spent a few days reading up on the various aftermarket heads. from what i gathered most of the major brands make really good stuff. quality control is an issue at some time or another at every place but edelbrock. our local race builder hates assembled TFS heads, doesn't mind the castings. my pro actions came with a couple out of spec guides. AFR had issues with that "bad batch" of eliminators. hmm...come to think about it i have never heard anything bad about the quality control at dart. one question, are these the aluminum or iron?

I have the heads you are asking about on my 383.

The Iron platinum series heads are one of the best if not the best 23 degree iron heads out there. For a pump gas street motor 383 or 406 I would stay with the 200cc version.

I did that too. I went with Pro Topline. Not bad, but not great. They test with a big bore to look better. I have AFR now. I have never seen the same size head that is better then AFR. For me I don't care what a head flows at .7 lift. There are a ton of real results with AFR heads.

For the cost of a few tanks of gas you can get AFR's.
Flame away.

I was looking at the new design aluminum. one thing they also changed was the high of the spark plug which is suppose to help with combustion. on the dyno they out performed the iron and the origional pro one's by 24 hp and 9lb tQ. they just look like a killer head to me.

The one thing I would say is with what intake and more importantly what RPM range.

I think 215s on a 383 would be prime to peak around ~7k RPM.
For a 5.5-6.5k RPM limit (TPI intake styles) I would go with their competition ported CNC 180'd which probably opens it up to ~190-195. Or with their 200cc Pro 1 (which is what I run, ported I'm betting it's around 210cc)
