I've done it before, but I'm not sure how good an idea it is. If you only have to take off a little and make very small cuts you should be OK. You don't want to create a sharp edge on the slots.If you're just trying to clean them up or remove a slight glaze, they should be OK. If they are warped or grooved its probably best to replace them.
