Default Shifter upgrade project (from stock to ratchet)

As you probably know, I've recently rebuilt and upgraded my tranny with a lot of goodies, including Trans-Go stivk shift option. So next logical step is ratchet shifter.

I bought used B&M Megashifter on e-bay and it came with broken T-handle thread.

This is what it should look in normal condition:

I have a good fried who works on CNC machines so I decided create hadle bar drawings and have him make a new handle bar.

But actually, I don't like the idea of T-handle in vette, so I changed the design a little bit.

And after a few days I received a finished product. I removed that upper ring from original design.

And here it is after some polishing.

Today I had some time so I decided to try to see how it will fit in car. Here are a few pics:

That's what I did so far. There is still work to do with fitting tranny cable and electronics (shifter position) from stock shifter. I'll post progress.

A video of how it should work:

If you have an auto, those ratchet shifters are the best. Look forward to seeing the finished product. I agree, the T-handle doesn't look nearly as nice as your custom mount.

Slick setup you'll have there, though I'm not a fan of ratchet shifters personally (broke too many!)...

My personal preference is the tried and true Turbo Action Cheetah SCS... damn near bulletproof (but it would look out of place in a street Vette)

Nice work!

Stock mounts do not fit (it's held in place with only 2 screws in pics) so I'll have to fab a sort of bracket, but it shouldn't be too hard.

As for position, it's a little bit higher, but personally, I like it. I only think that I'll try to lower front mounting point to get better angle when shifter is in gears position.

And fitting that plastic trim back in place will be a real chalenge.

I have B&M Quicksilver rachet in mine. The shifter "looks" too high but I like that it is right where your hand drops off the wheel. Great for racing which is why I installed it ; no more 1 -3 shifts at the track.
Bruno ,
on mine I made a plate to fit on the underside the tunnel with 4 bolts welded to it. Glued it to the tunnel with silastic so if I have to remove shifter do not need someone under car to hold bolt. Also spreads the mounting over a wider area for when you hit the shifter hard.
Nice work on the handle.

Hi Rod!
That's excellent idea with plate. Do you perhaps have any pics of your shifter?

Your new handle looks great. I wonder if B&M knows they have a problem. I recently shipped one to the west coast and when it got there it was broke exactly the same way. The guy was shocked. Who would have thought a handle could fall off in shipping ?? He thought I sent it like that. Fortunately he had another handle available and was very nice about the whole thing. B&M really needs to do something about it.

I also bought this shifter as a complete, not broken, but it came broken to me. I didn't wan't to make too much fuss about that. It's hard to tell if it broke in transport or not. But judging to your experience, it looks like seller was honest.

And that handle is made of some sh** material that even can't be welded.

Nice job so far, I'm waiting to see how you mount the two cables on the shifter so I can copy the idea

Use the B&M supplied cable / trans brackets and delete the steering interlock.

I'll only use one cable, that goes to tranny, as rodj said in previous post, but I'll try to work it out with stock cable.

Problem will be equating movement of cable at shifter with stock setup v movement with B&M.
