Default Air inlet tube to throttle body

Some time ago some one made a air inlet tube between the air filter and the throttle body, made of silicone rubber. Its claim to fame was that it replaced the accordian type inlet duct with a smooth molded silicone hose to fit on the 90/91 speed density L98 cars. Does anyone here know where I can find one or someone that has one for sale. I have just installed a new SuperRam on a customers L98 car, with a new 58mm TB and the stock accordian style inlet duct will not fit over the new TB.

Tom,

I have seen a picture where one of the members took a orange traffic cone and cut it down to fit. I worked well.....but BRIGHT ORANGE.

I have a 58mm TB and the stock intake fits OK.Those horrendously expensive silcone intakes are another example of snake oil salesmen. About as effective as an air foil.Try warming the original with a hair drier or heat gun.Should slip right on there.

Tom, if the opening of the 58mm TB is larger then stock, that piece will not fit. I have one on my stock '90, and it barely fit the TB.

That one looks pretty good.

And what kind of rubber is that? I've never seen that tread pattern... (spokes look a little non-c4 too )

You need to be careful with those.

The cheap ones will actuall suck shut under vacuum!

A little silicone grease really helps....makes what seems an impossible fit go together real easy..

...on my 96 the stock coupler worked fine with the 58mm TB after the application of a some silicone grease to the inside of the coupler....don't know if this is true for a L98 tho

The ext size of the aftermarket TB 's is the same ; it is just that the aftermarket saw fit to put a ridge where GM did not.
Couple of minutes with a file solved my "fitment " problem.

Not sure who sells them....pretty sure Lingenfelter did at one time..

...but if the stock one doesn't fit, the replacement for stock won't fit either??

This happened with my 434. I couldn't figure out why my motor was shutting down at high rpm/heavy load. I would sure like to see a pic of the Samco product if anyone has one.

I have seen this reported before.......but there should never be vacuum in these couplers on a properly functioning system!!!

If in fact there is vacuum in these couplers it indicates something like a dirty air filter or woefully inadequate air filter or some other undesired restriction in the air inlet path....

BTW I also recall some reports that the cheap couplers have a seam that sometimes splits and allows unfiltered air into the engine..

The one I have seems very thick would be hard to believe it could collapse like that

The according style was rigid. I bought a modified air box and since I am running a MAP system, I use a '92 LT1 bridge. Once the engine compartment heats up, it turns very pliable. I use a K&N filter that is always clean. Not sure what else in line to the TB would cause a restriction
