What do you use to diagnose OBD1 computers.......
everything I've seen is for OBD2. Can a OBD2 scantool (ie Autotap, ect) be used on an OBD1 car? If not what can?

No, the ALDL connector is different. I have a Snap-on scan tool that pulls codes from pre-OBDII cars. If you just want codes from your car, ground the diagnostic terminal on your ALDL and count the check engine light. Good luck.

I am using laptop with Craig Moates' software and an AKM cable/interface. Works great and a LOT cheaper than a commercial product! Assembled the cable myself from the kit.

I've got an Auto-Xray for trouble codes, and I wrote my own software for dataloging. The Auto-Xray is nice since the model I have will connect to OBDI cars from Big 3 (I own cars from each).

I use the TTS DataMaster software with an AKM cable. It's not free (though there is a free demo) - but personally I think it's and amazing package and worth every penny!

Andrew (AKM) cables can sell licenses to you cheaper than the full TTS price, FWIW.

I second Datamaster from Andrew. Argueably the bst investment I have made for the car. Cant tune or diagnose without it.
