Cam for 355 roller w/miniram... LT4 hotcam?
So the car is in my garage awaiting some winter TLC. The cam definitely needs help now that I am not running the old TPI set up. I've heard pretty good things about the Hot Cam especially the price. Money is not my major concern here so I am open to all suggestions as far as cams go. Right now the motor has an LT4 bottom end and late model L98 centerbolt heads. I will upgrade springs and lifters to accomodate the cam.
Maybe Tpis ZZ-X?
Comp Cams custom grind?
Hot Cam?
Any help greatly appreciated.

if you still had the L98 bottom i wouldve said Accel 219, but with the new bottom and heads i would look at the hotcam or TPIS cam exclusively, since the TPIS cam was made for MR setups, i might be leaning towards that one.

I was told the 219 was set up more for a tpi setup or SR setup, more for mid range torque than high end power. Am I missing something?

The 219 cam is a good cam. Many LT1 cars have run the cam with good results, and dyno numbers are very close to between the 219 and LT4 hot. So I wouldn't change to a LT4 hot from the 219. Maybe a custom CompCams grind or the Crane 222/230 cam if you want more power.

Re: Cam for 355 roller w/miniram... LT4 hotcam? (C4-Wolf)
Some things I have read seem to suggest with a miniram I should go with more duration. Is this the case?
LPE 219 duration and .525 lift
ZZ-X Hydraulic Roller
Advertised duration 290 290
Duration at .050 239 239
Gross lift .558 .558
Lobe separation 112
I know the ZZ-X is a pretty extreme cam but isn't the LPE only slightly larger than stock? Please help now I am confused.

So what did you do the the heads to work with a reverse flow LT4 bottom end? I sure would like to save $500 on a new set of heads if I can get the regular 350 heads to work with minimal work.

Sorry its a standard 350 roller block .30 over with LT4 crank, rods, and alum pistons. Didn't know the block was different, thought it was only the heads and manifold. My bad.

Keep your 219 the gains from a change would be minimal at best. Not worth it. Buy something else if you are just looking for a reason to spend $$$$. Gears would be great for your setup. :yesnod:

For those interested in regular small block heads on an reverse flow LT1 or LT4.

You haven't mentioned heads. You need to concentrate on better flowing heads if you are going for more topend power. Cams can help but heads is the place to start. Then set the cam to match the heads and rpm range.

Actually I started another thread concerning heads, hopefully it will be as helpful as this. Thanks all for the posts.

I think the Z-X is a bit extreme for a 355..
I have a 355 Miniram motor with the ZZ9 cam...
Think if I wanted to switch cams.. I would install the ZZ-409 on the 355

Jeff are you running stock heads and lifters?
2.00/1.57 valves. The lifters hydraulic roller.. And I am running 1.6 intake and 1.5 exhaust full roller rockers.
ZZ-X will be too big for the stock heads IMHO
