Money is in, Need modified Head Experts
Gents,
money is in, Will remove intake, heads and intake this weekend and I'm planning on sending them to Elliot's Portworks in Texas. This shop in California wants twice the money Elliots ask. I guess he charges C6 Z06 prices...
Need you advice on which work I should do. This is for my LT4 6 speed and remember that I'm in California so the Corvette has to pass the "sniffer".
Need place to shop for the best head, intake and other gaskets.
Got a question concerning the torque for the heads, the FSM says "tighten cylinder heads in sequence on the first pass to 22 lb ft."- Ok I got no problem with that
Now " tightemn short bolts 3-4-7-8-11-12-15-16 to 67 degrees, med bolts 14-17 to 80 degrees and long bolts 1-2-5-6-9-10-13 to 80 degrees"
The chilton manual calls for 65 lb ft. How do I measure degrees? Please help with this one
Thanks

You have to get a torque/angle guage, but this is really just for the factory bolts. If you use aftermarket bolts follow the recommendations of the bolt manufacturer. I would highly recommend ARP bolts. You're really not supposed to re-use the factory torque to yield bolts.

ARP bolts are cheap and a nice upgrade. i personally bought old school SBC head bolts when i first changed the head gaskets in my lt4 and just torqued them to 65ft/lbs. never had an issue.

I did not know that old head bolts are not to be re-used. Love this stuff! I'd say to order the ARP bolts from summit? What they call that a LT4 head bolt kit?
What else do I need to buy for a complete installation?

SBC head bolt kit for alum. heads. Nothing special about the LT4 head bolts that Im aware of, toque them down and go so to speak
Have some Permatex thread dealer handy should any of your head bolts see water jackets. Opinions will vary.
