Default Why is is flaking chrome such a problem with Sawblades ?

Is it just age, or do these wheels seem to be more susceptible to having the chrome flake off than others ?

Most likely poor prep work by whoever did the chrome work.

there were no factory chromings of these wheels, just companies making money on cheap chroming.

If you have priced the chrome wheel option on new Corvettes it is ~ an $1,800 option vs. the $500 or $600 that the cheapo local chromer gets. Few people are willing to pay for high quality chroming, so most aftermarket budget wheel chroming is destined for a short life. To aggravate maters, your Corvette can generate cornering forces that will hasten the life of budget chrome plating on the sawblades.

I didn't realize that chrome sawblades were not a factory option.

Although the C4 didn't leave the factory with chrome wheels, I have heard that some dealers installed them as a "dealer installed" option at time of purchase.

So, it's possible that a brand new C4 sitting in the show room might have had them.
But as others have said, they are still an aftermarket option.

If you look around, you probably won't find any chrome wheels with a warranty of longer than 2 years on the plating process.
