roller rockers only on an early 86
saw a thead about a motor build and upgrade to roller rocker /cam.
can I upgrade only the rockers on an early 86 without changing the lifters & cam? would my stock valve covers still fit?
what roller rockers are an appropriate upgrade for my 86? I only see roller rocker adds for late 86 and up, what is the difference, between my iron heads vs. the aluminum (I guess that's the difference).
Do you think I would get a 10hp gain with only the rockers? I imagine there would be a gas mileage increase.
Thanks,
Tom

Not sure about power gains but the only reason to not use rollers is that you can have interference with the valve covers. Most have removed the drip tabs, some have gone to taller covers. (Yours would not be self-aligning.) My only regret was not using 1:6 instead of the original 1:5.

You cannot use 1.6 rollers on early iron heads without elongating the push rod slots or you will bend your push rods. This means you would have to remove your heads.1.5's would be fine.
