Extremely urgent! Pass. Window won't come up
Hi, need some help FAST (moving Chicago to Houston in 2 days).
Two days ago, I noticed that the passender window in my '84 corvette wouldn't come back up. Now, from the lowest level, it will come up about two inches, then it stops and begins making a fast ratting sound (rat-tat-tat-tat...).
I removed the door panel and I'm in the process of removing the inner bracket, but before I start taking everything apart, does anybody know what this could be?
I've looked in between the door skin and the frame, and I can't tell what's causing the elevation of the window to seize. The gear belt looks good, and the motor turns on just fine. I don't see any obstructions.
PLEASE HELP
Thanks.

Are you driving it when you go? If you are take the mech. pieces out that hold the window up, and get a piece of wood to prop the window all the way up until you can diagnos the problem. I would check switches and connections, and look very carefully at all aspects of the inside of the door. Good luck. Hard to figure out with out seeing whats going on.

The wood thing. I usually use like a piece of pine, 1 x 2 cut to the length you need.

If it comes down to that, I'll have to use a piece of wood like you said.
This this just horrible timing, the car was ready for the trip.
I'm going to go back out there and see what I might've missed, I'll come back in 1 hour and see if anyone else has any suggestions.
Thanks.

Drifting
When i bought my '86 it had hose clamps around the guide
tube holding the windows up. The drive tape/gear had a few teeth missing. Good luck. Benny

Melting Slicks
Sounds like you need a new ribbon cable. If you can manually pull the window up by hand, the ribbon is probably broken. If it's stuck at a certain point and you can't move it by hand, you probably have broken teeth on the ribbon that are inside the motor. You can replace it with a chrysler ribbon and cut it to length.

Burning Brakes
You need a new power window ribbon. A fairly inexpensive and easy fix. Take the door panel off and you will be able to see the broken ribbon. It has been a while since I have done one so I don't remember step by step.
