does a coolant bypass do anything on a TPI car?
Hi everyone, ive seen a lot af advertising lately about bypassing the coolant lines from the throttle body, ive seen it adverised for LT1's and the new c5's. but nothing for the older L98 engines, will it do anything if i bypassed it on my 85? it makes good sense if you think about it, but ive just never seen it done on a 85....what is the best way to do it?..........thanks.......... :chevy

I think every L98 guy in here I've seen has done this. If done right, you can eliminate the little hose on the front of the engine /intake. That's one less hose in a tight space you have to worry about busting on ya.

The coolant is being routed through the carberator to warm the air passing through the intake. It is to prevent icing in extreme cold conditions -- very much like the carberator heat on an aircraft engine.
Unfortunately, warm air is also less dense than cold air, and therefore offers less oxygen to burn with the fuel. By bypassing the carberator, you should see better fuel milage and/or increased horsepower.
I don't know if this applies to the c3's, but it will help on the c5's.
