Default Are Lucas injectors any good?

I found a guy who has some for sale at a good price. Are they any good (i.e. better than Accel/as good or better than FMS)? Thanks.

I think vettenuts just put those in his 90 (that's the vert on the top of the screen) before buying his new C5! If my memory is correct (and that saying something) there was nothing cheap about them, and he bought as the very best he could find.

You might try a search on this forum for Lucas and see if you find some posts from vettenuts!

Lucas Service P/N 5207011 (OE P/N 5720D810) were used on 350cids in '85-'88.

When they arrive send them to Rich at Cruzin Performance for reconditioning and flow check/matching (about $80 to recondition).

So Lucas those old injectors were the crap they used that GM used stock that gave everyone so much trouble? I was under the impression that the stock 85 FIs were Bosch. Hmm....

They don't call Lucas the Lord or Darkness for nothing.

Question: Why do the British drink warm beer?

Answer: Their refrigerators are made by Lucas. :D

dtorc4,

You are correct, the originals were Bosch and GM replaced them with Lucas. According to my GM PArts & Illustration book:
The 1st design for 85 - 88 was by Bosch and can be identified by the letters "RP" on the side of the injector. The part #s were 85 = 17110870, 86 = 17111518, 87-88 = 17111961. The 2nd design replacement was by Lucas and all years 85 - 88 used one part # 10108481.

I've used Lucas injector's before, and so long as you don't have to go beyond the recomended fuel pressure their ok. They are disc, style rather than pintle, they claim that they are more self cleaning due to that fact. Only draw back from my experience was that if you had to set the fuel pressure very high they would tend to lock up, but thats inherent to the disc style.

I'm getting the 24 lbers so I can still have (roughly) the same FP as stock. I emailed vettenuts, who had a set on his C4 before he sold it, and he said the are very good injectors. This is what he said:

"The Lucas injectors are excellent injectors. The internal parts are
all stainless steel. The rise time is much faster then the pintle type and
therefore can be more precisely controlled. Also, there is less
deviation between injectors then with the pintle type so you get better injector
balance. Important if you have an L-98. I only had the injectors for
a year prior to selling the car, no problems whatsoever and I know the
current owner and the car runs great. Just be careful of 24 vs. 22 #/hr since
it will drive your ECM to the extreme of it's range. Also, check out http://www.rceng.com which is where I bought mine ($63 each, not the price on
the website). They have some more information on the injector as their
injectors are actually Lucas. I think they are much better then the
Accel or Bosch injector and a lot of people deeply involved in the Corvette
performance hobby highly recommended them to me."

I sent the Money order out today - $155 for a set only used on the dyno once - not bad for ANY kind of injectors if you ask me.

When I hear the word "Lucas" used with electronics I remember all the times I rode home in the dark on my Triumph and BSA. Also brings to mind the Jaguar advertisement "Best Jaguar ever, no Lucas electrics".
