code 41 intermittent 86 Vert
Was driving and noticed a slight hesitation or a miss and immediately got the SES light. The light went away as well did the miss. It came and went again the next time I drove it.
This is what I found so far in the search:
http://members.shaw.ca/corvette86/Code%2041.pdf
Code 41 = Cylinder Select Error Circuit (1985-1991)
These are the possible problems: Check wiring at ECM. Possible PROM failure, or incorrectly seated PROM. Reseat PROM. Possible ECM failure.
As far as I know the car has got all original PROM and ECM.
Help
Thanks

Did you just buy this car? 41 is a Faulty MEMCAL or Chip (maybe someone put an Aftermarket Performance Chip in it) that isn't seated properly, though there's a remote possibility that it's the ECM. Drop the ECM (remove passenger side Hush Panel - lay on your back and look up) and remove and reseat the CHIP - if it doesn't go away you'll need to find the correct CHIP and if that doesn't fix it, a new ECM. I'd just call a boneyard for the whole package.

I bought the car a little more than a year ago. I've been having varied problems but I've been working through them.
This code 41 problem just surfaced.
I'll give it a go reseating and checking ckt 450 (grounds)
Thanks alot

Ok - unusual to have this problem and though there was a Bulletin on the '85, it was limited to a small # of that Year's VIN's and the problem only occurred when it was below 35 degrees. I'd guess someone put some sort of aftermarket in there but you won't know until you check it out and hopefully it's just come loose.

I'll let you know if that helps it.

traded out ECM
After all of that and a new ECM I still get the same malfunction. Code 41 cylinder select error and runs bad ... like on 4 cyclinders.
Anyone know where to get OEM PROMs for an 1986?

I had just made a post on this code but got no responses so I did a whole lotta research. I work at O'reilly auto parts and put our codescout on the car and it listed Electronic Spark Timing Error code 41. I have done a full tune up inc plugs wires cap rotor tested coil and module cleaned the maf and new air filter. I did some research at work and talked to some ase cert. techs and found that there is an electronic spark control unit in the car. Its called the ESC module for short. I was told that this was probably my problem if i had gone through with everything else. Have yet to replace it but Luckily i am redoing the interior and I shouldnt have to look too hard for it. If you need one Borg Warner # is ESC116 here is a link.. http://www.bwdbrand.com/web_app/cata...rSearch=ESC116
Looks like it is for the 1984-1986 models and runs 65.99 with around a 30$ core.

If you are looking in the interior, you will be looking till you are an old man!!!
It's in the engine bay, on the right side, next to the heater blower motor or A/C "suitcase" that houses the heater core and the evaporator.
I would check for a fuse on one injector driver first, then if that doesn't give satisfaction, just unplug the est module while running.
Mine was surging, and when I unplugged it while running, it smoothed out.
In addition, when i cleared the codes, by unplugging the battery, the problem never returned, and I didn't change any parts for that problem.

Cool thanks for the pics I was actually looking like crazy for it! I was told most cars had it on the interior so thats where I started. Im going to go unplug it now and plug it back in and check some results!

I was going to say maybe the module is bad. my 90 does not have this thing, so I have no time spent with it. but I have read plenty about it on here over the years hunting down my own problems.
If you disconnect the battery for a bit and replug, the code should be reset. I guess if the module is trashed the code should come back right away. It could be worth a shot to see if it acts normal for a few minutes before it figures out it is screwed up.
