Default Coolant reservoir cap question

After hard acceleration (and only then, not when "everyday driving") I've noticed a few drops of coolant on top of the coolant reservoir. The cooling system is in fine shape: radiator cap, hoses and thermostat have been replaced and the system flushed and burped. Reservoir levels are normal.

Checking the reservoir cap, which is probably original, it seems "okay" (the cork gasket seems solid and even) and although perhaps it's as simple as the cap not being screwed on completely tight, as the cap is vented - I assume to prevent pressure from blowing up the reservoir - whether the cap is screwed on tight or not wouldn't seem to be the answer.

Anyone experienced a similar situation or have any ideas?

Thanks!

John

You don't have the reservoir to full do you? There shouldn't be much coolant in there.

Thanks for the reply but no, the levels are normal.

Mine really splashes out at a track event. What I did was wrap the top vented area with black tape. Pressure can cause it to vent/suck but hardly any liquid slashes out now.

I get the same thing at auto-x events. Does the tape really work?

Mine would splash all over into the nose even, after the tape there is nothing. I used black rubber racers tape and it's tough to tell it's there.

Sounds like tape is the solution.

A small piece of black foam would work well and be hidden as another idea.
