Default Can I put a 96 ECM (obd2) into a 94 (obd1)

title say it all....LT4 / LT1 96 OBD II ECM COMPUTER would it work ok even though it may have more capabilities. I do have the OBD2 connector and I understood from Gordon Killebrew that the 94 was a test year and had OBD1 & 2 capabilities.

Thanks in advance. tom

The 96 unit requires a crank sensor, in order to mount one you need a different front cover, which you can't order new anymore.

The crank sensor is not required, from what I understand.
Supposedly it does nothing except count misfires.
But it does have 2 knock sensors.

My 94 and the replacement 95 that is going in both have 2 knock sensors as well.

I think '95 and up has the PWM in the transmission and the '94 doesn't. Pretty sure the trans portion of the ECU is going to cause problems. On second though, not really sure what controls the transmission so I could be wrong.

Are you needed a replacement ECU? My '94 ECU will be available shortly,...maybe.

Black 771 & Vettemed, thanks for the offers, I already have the 96 ECU and am trying to identify what additional parameters I will achieve if I put it into my 94 since it supposedly had dual OBD storage capabilities but only OBD1 output without the Tech 2 instrument to read them. If the 96 would allow for reading additional codes etc it would kind of be an update to the car. I believe also that I have the two knock sensors and also before and after O2 sensors for the cats. Thanks for the info should I need another in the future. tom
