Default HELP Vortec heads need fast answers

Will the Vortec heads bolt right on the 85 L98 I know you need the Scoggin Dickey intake but are there any other mod or changes needed to make this work?
I'm not talking to get the best performance out of this setup but just to get it to work.
Will the stock exhaust manifold work? If not what header will I need?
What about the injectors will the Fords work on the SD intake?
How about the sensors in the stock head will they fit the Vortec"s

I understand that there are 2 and only 2 kinds of V8 Vortec heads if thats true which ones do we want what casting #?

Thanks for any info you guys come up with.

I'll try and get things started for you. I read the article about the intake and heads (I posted the topic a couple weeks ago :D ) and they did the test on an 87 Y body (corvette) so everything should work fine for you. I am not sure, but it if the 87 and 85 use the same headers and sensors (I know they use different heads) it should do fine. I would ask Scrogen Dicky though. They would know for sure.

I have not done the swap but it is my understanding from the articles I have read you only need the heads and intake manifold. The Vortec iron heads are definitely the hot ticket for cheap performance. These heads almost flow the same as stock LT4 heads!!

The only limit is you can not use cams with lift over .490" without machining the valve guides and if you decide to use bigger diameter valve springs, you have to have the them machined. Otherwise, they seem to be a good choice.

Scoggin-Dickey in Lubbock Texas is the one to answer your questions. I have bought parts from them in the past (and actually visited their store!) and highly recommend them.

Scrogin D. sells a set of vortecs that alow a large lift than that. They use the z-28 springs. Don't know the specs but they sell for $299 a piece which is about $50 more than the other version they sell of the vortec heads.

I will be your night in shinning armor this time. Hehehe JK

I am looking at a scroggin dickey parts center add in the newest chevy high performance pg67 if you want to see for yourself. The fully asembled vortec heads 1.94/1.5 is $219.50 each. (get rid of your contact) The vortec upgrade Z28 springs $289.50 each. Vortec TPI base $399.95. The numer there is 1-800-456-0211 and the tech line is 1-800-798-4108.. BE SURE and refer to ad #CH201.

Why do I care so much? Well I really really really want to know how this set-up does in real life. So, I am hoping (wink wink) that you will e-mail me how thangs went and what the SOTP dyno felt.

Okay I'm 16 days late:sleep: , but why not the fast burns heads? Here's another item to screw with your brain. Intakes 3: SDPC (no flow data as of yer), TPiS miniram (no EGR) and a modified single/dual plane setup for MPI.

The S/D intake is the stock 1.470 port or runner size. They have HUGE injector bosses protruding into the runner. The price is $399.00
The Vortec heads have steel valves, iron guides"cast in"

The Accell base has no boss in the way.Has a 1.770 size runner.
Price $389.00 from rich@cruzinperformance and allows the use of a conventional head face/pattern
There are many aftermarket heads out there that will run with the Vortecs' at the same price after the Vortec's are modded with screwin studs ect. With aftermarket heads you get a much thicker deck for relibility when over heated. Most have stainless steel valves and bronze guides

I don't know about late model Corvette manifolds"stock" but the Fbody cars must run an adapter to use stock manifolds on the passenger side.Bolt pattern is different than Vortec. What's called the 7 bolt manifolds.

To me,Accel and after market or stock heads win even if you spend 100.00 more just for reliability. The additional power will be a freebie
Thats my opinion any way.
