Default INFL REST air bag warning light stays on

My 1990 Coupe has a recent problem. The INFL REST air bag warning light stays on. When I start the car it comes on goes out and then comes back on and remains on. The seat belt light stays on also. Also recently the passenger electrical window can be operated from the drivers control only sometimes. This is also new problem. I bought the car with 79,000 miles on it 2 years ago after it was sitting in a garage for 7 years. The dealer replaced the air bag sensor before I took ownership.

Could the sensor have failed? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

THANKS

Probably just the sensor ground, if you don't have a FSM, do a search or look under tech repairs and I'm sure you'll find a troubleshooting guide.

I have the same problem, need to pull it apart and clean up the sensor and frame ground, adding dielectric grease. Then reset the computer.

There's a write up on the main page, and here's one with pictures:

Pull codes and try to reset the light first.
The procedure is touchy and must be done exactly in the time frame described. It took me at least 15 times before I hit it right.
The dealer may have had the same problem after replacing the sensor and wasn't able to reset.

OHM check the frame sensors to know for sure. It will tell you if the sensors or DERM are bad.

Remember to DISCONNECT THE BATTERY before doing any work on the Air Bag System. Leave it sit for 15 min. Pipe

Default INFL REST Light stays on

FYI - If you suspect the problem is your air bag computer (DERM) I had mine repaired and I would be glad to give anyone this information.

If you could please send the info to me at Ksch994462@comcast.net, I'd sure appreciate it. I'm having the same problems with these lites (+Change Oil Lite) on my 1990 L98. Thanks.... Keith Schnier

I don't have my FSM with me, but there is a procedure using the trip-computer buttons to reset the Change Oil light. If you know the right combination of button presses, it's easy to reset after you do your own oil-change. Search around on here, it's probably posted somewhere, maybe when I get home to my FSM, I'll remember to update this post.

Resetting Oil Change indicator:

do NOT ground the ALDL plug.

1. Turn Ignition on but don't start engine.
2. Press ENG/MET button and release, then press again within 5 seconds.
3. Within 5 seconds of step 2, press and hold the RANGE button. While the button is held the "Change Oil" indicator will flash.
4. Continue holding the RANGE button until the "Change Oil" indicator stops flashing and goes out. (about 10 seconds)

If it doesn't successfully reset, your timing may have been off (they're serious about that 5 second stuff )... turn Ignition off and start at step 1 again if necessary.
