Default Question on Cam

hey guys,

A buddy of mine had a spare slp 51002 cam from a l98 build tht didnt pan out and he gave it to me. I searched on here and nothing came up. from what i have been able to find the specs are as follows.

Model Number .05" Duration 1.5:1 Lift 1.6:1 Lift Lobe Sep.
51002 206/214 .470/.490 .501/.522 112deg None

im thinking about dropping this in my 89 L98. Its stock except for some mild porting of the TPI system.

My question is has anyone had any experience with this cam and does it seem like a decent drop in for my car or would it drop in performance.

any help would be appreciated guys! thanks!

It's a very mild cam, probably only one step up from the stock cam. You'll need new springs though if you plan to run 1.6 rockers to handle the resulting .522 valve lift.

Even with 1.5 rockers, new springs would be a good idea.

For the price I would do it
Cam is similar to Comp XR258HR ; rated 1000 -5000 rpm

Get a set of new valve springs to suit the extra lift
Under $40 for set of 16
