Default Absolute "best in the world" spark plug wires???

I'm stuck in the garage waiting for replacement IAC's for my '84. So - time for another little project.

I'm looking for the "gold standard" of spark plug wires - the absolute best there is - TOP OF THE LINE - the "Cadillac" - HEAVY DUTY.

I am going to do this once and only once so price is not a consideration.

They must be CUSTOM made / direct fit for my '84.

Recommendations???? Magnecor??? Are there others???

Matching quality cap and rotor???

THANKS.

I guess when we figure out who is the best woman in the world, or where to get the best meatloaf in the world, we can easily figure out the best plug wire.
In any event, this has been discussed many times over the past 10 years. You will get 300 "opinions" of who has the best wire with the search feature. After the mass banning last year, alot of the good tech guys are gone, so the search will help you get opinions, old and new.

Dave - These Moroso Blue Max wires should do the trick for you without causing a buzzzz in your radio speakers. http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...5&dept_id=1287

Magnecors look about the same price as Blue Max.

I am an audiofile and CANNOT have ANY interference in my MP3 or it'll drive me whacko.

My 26 year old DELCO BOSE system sounds like it is freakin' new.

This little puppy helped get rid of the EMI in my '84 and on my Harley: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-s5GY7Og...se-Filter.html

Any idea which brand of wires is "quieter"???

Thanks guys.

As Pete K pointed out, you'll get a lot of differing opinions...........so here's mine, MSD Superconductors

I will offer my opinion. I have been using the TPIS brand wires for over 15 years. 1st set was on the car for 10 plus years, and still look and work like new. Zero radio noise, perfect fir, and fit the stock plug wire retainers, as they are 8mm wide. Considering the average top fuel car makes 7000+ hp on 9mm wires, I figure 8mm is fine for my measly ride.
Boots are vulcanized to the wire, and they do not easily burn from header heat. Added bonus is they are grey, so they look stock.

I use Taylor 8mm. I also appreciate a good stereo. There's no noise interference on mine.

There are lots of plug wires out there that will work just fine but you need to consider the application. What do you do with the car? Does the engine see high RPM a lot? Just a daily driver? Do you autocross? Drag race? Do track days?

There are all sort of specs for plug wires in terms of resistance in ohms per foot, resistance of electromagnetic interference suppression in ohms, thickness of the wire, material, type of terminals, etc. Once you can find the specs and understand what the specs mean, you can make a decision.

You can buy the fanciest plug wires on the planet, but if you get cheap spark plugs (or non-resistor) or maybe a cheap distributor cap, then the quality of the wires won't make a big difference.

So look for good plugs with platinum or iridium tips, plug wires with the least resistance in ohms per foot and the most resistance in ohms for noise interference.

Get a good distributor cap that has brass terminals and a rotor with a brass contact tip.

High-zoot wires will often be 8.5mm or even 9mm thick. The stock wire retainers will not work so you will have to get aftermarket clips and retainers to hold the wires in place and away from the exhaust manifolds. Buy custom-fit wires; there are "universal" kits that you can cut to fit, but if you don't have either the right tool to crimp the terminals or don't do it properly, there will be trouble.

Radio or other audio noise can come from the alternator or any motor-drive accessory too. Sounds like you needed the filter from Crutchfield to handle alternator noise,

Personally, I have always had good luck with MSD Super Conductor 8.5mm wires and ACCEL caps and rotors. For plugs, you can go with Bosch Platinum+4 or NGK TR55 Iridiums. Even the AC Delco Platinum Plus plugs will work for street duty.

Plugs, wires, and distributor caps last a lot longer incomputer-controlled cars; it's not uncommon for newer cars to go 100K miles on plugs and wires. Even stock AC Delco plug wires can last for 8-10 years on street cars.

Thanks for the advice C4cruiser - already replaced the stock Delco plugs with these Bosch Platinim-IR Fusions: http://www.boschautoparts.com/sparkp...mIrFusion.aspx

Will 8mm fit the stock retainers???

Just looking to get similar high quality/reliable components - cap and rotor.

Anybody use dielectric grease on their plug wires / dist cap???

Pete,

What mass banning last year? I'm really curious to know who was banned.

Thanks

I bought mine from Lingenfelter in Decatur, IN. Great price, fast shipping.

Magnecor had actually recommended I buy them from Lingenfelter.

O.K....So what do you think about a 10mm wire set? (Man, they are big! About the size of my pinky.)

I found (and ordered) one from SkipWhite Performance this summer. (Not installed yet.)
