Question about HyperTech chip and thermostat
I am planning on getting a HyperTech Power Chip stage II and 160d thermostat (from Ecklers). Ecklers states that the stage II chip is designed to work with the 160d thermostat. Which is fine because I am planning on getting both. But I won't be able to install the thermostat for a while. Will I hurt anything if I install the chip before the thermostat? Or does it not matter?

The 160 thermostat will allow you to have a denser fuel charge and less chance of detonation because the engine is running cooler. My experiences with the LT1 is the cooler you can keep the engine the harder it runs.

The new chip will cause the cooling fans to cycle on at a lower temp for use with the 160 stat. Shouldn't matter since in effect you're doing the same thing when you turn on the A/C.

dont buy the hypertech chip, it does nothing to anything besides the fans. If you just want them to turn on, contact Craig Marcho and see if he can burn you a chip. I guarantee you he'll be cheaper. (Marcho Polo on the ECM section)

Hey Vader I have a '94, I bought a 160 stat but have yet to install it. If I install it without change the temp the fans come on will it have any effect? My car runs around 200 all the time, just seems too hot to me! Thanks

Re: Question about HyperTech chip and thermostat (Crispyc21)
Installing the thermostat takes about 15min..no reason not to find the time...does not take that long.. My operating temp dropped from 208 to 173 which for no other reason is better on the engion. I used the programer (94 coupe) . Was able to firm up shifting as well as change fans. Seems to be running a little stronger but do not have a dyno which is the only way to know for sure.

I know someone that got the chip and is very disappointed with it, no big change at all. But I know a lot of people saying that the Power Programmer is the best bang for the buck!...This is just from what I've heard from people through car shows, and talking to people in different corvette clubs....more info the better, good luck!

Crispyc21, I think we got slightly off the subject because you cant use a power programmer. I have the hypertech chip in my 93. I did see a small improvement mainly because it got rid of the rev limiter. After I do some mods this summer I plan to get a ED Wright Chip. Give that a shot.
