Small Oil Leak on 85 A/C Compressor Normal?
Does anyone know if small oil leaks are normal? I read that the 85 uses a self oiling compressor that is known to leak. I've installed two new compressors and both have leaked.

No,They are not supposed to leak...Might be an O'Ring at hose connection or the seal is bad or the contact prssure switch..My 84' never leaked a drop.If oil is leaking freon can also.
Is your freon staying in OK ?

Might be from somewhere else, like front seal and the belt is slinging oil....
Is the system losing charge...then leak test the system using dye or a sniffer. Check the charge ports (schrader valves) by dripping some oil in them and look for bubbles

The oil leak is at the pulley. I have not been able to check freon pressure yet. The compressor will not engage which leads me to believe the freon pressure is too low. What I'm struggling with is why compressors are failing. I've gone through 2 new compressors in 2 years. Both leaked at the pulley.
